The EPA, Taxes and Farts – What’s the Connection?
There are many causes for global warming and the new term climate change. Many examples can be cited where temperatures are rising. But there are other instances where the temperatures seem to be cooling. So by using climate change, the environmentalists can make a case for reducing greenhouse gases.
Carbon emissions and greenhouse gases are caused by many commercial and industrial companies. But everyday human activities also contribute to the greenhouse gas problem. But it is even worse. Cows are causing a problem. Many environmentalists are also vegetarians who don’t eat beef and other meats. So they are probably pleased to discover there is another reason not to raise cows. A prior strike against cows was due to the spinach contamination scare from a few years back. The health department traced the deadly strain of E. coli in the contaminated spinach back to cow manure at a cattle ranch. That was a real and serious problem that thankfully has been rectified. Now, the problem is cow farts.
Are They Really Taxing Farts?
Six greenhouse gases are key causes of climatic changes: carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons, and sulfur hexafluoride. Methane emissions are produced when cows and other livestock farts. I talked to someone at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) who was unconcerned about electromagnetic fields (EMFs). He said that there is no scientific proof that EMFs cause or contribute to diseases. Yet this same EPA, empowered by the federal Clean Air Act provisions, is considering putting a tax on cow flatulence. Sound crazy? In 2007 the Supreme Court actually ruled that the greenhouse gases produced from animal flatulence or belching constitutes air pollution. Also the Supreme Court also ruled that greenhouse gases should be regulated under the Clean Air Act.
The cattlemen are up in arms. The Cattlemen’s Association (USCA) sent protest letters to both the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). You beef lovers should be concerned as well. Any tax on cattle will be passed on to the consumer, resulting in higher beef prices. And let’s not forget milk and milk products. They’ll probably be more costly as well.
Has the EPA gone too Far?
Farting is something that a body does. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a human or an animal body. There’s something wrong when natural bodily occurrences are being taxed. If you believe in the world’s creation by a Supreme Being, you’ve got to wonder: Did God do something wrong?
